5 Seconds of Summer have inked a global recording deal with BMG, the Sydney pop-rock acts first pact since parting with Interscope in March this year.
5 Seconds of Summer released four albums under Universal Music Group imprints; 2014’s self-titled debut, 2015’s Sounds Good Feels Good, 2018’s Youngblood were all issued via One Mode/Capitol Records, whilst 2020’s Calm was released through Interscope.
5SOS made history by hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with each of their three first releases. They’re the only Australian group with three leaders on the U.S. albums chart.
Among their biggest hits is 2018 release ‘Youngblood,’ which won song of the year at the ARIA Awards, was recognised as the best-selling single of the year in Australia, and is a member of the APRA AMCOS’ The 1,000,000,000 List.
The band is expected to release their first single with BMG early next year, which will be followed by the release of their fifth album later in 2022.
“It is testament to the band’s unity, hard work and ambition that in this 10th year together, they still share the same enthusiasm and aspiration to make music and be the biggest band in the world,” said the group’s manager, Benjamin Evans of 17 Artists, in a statement. “
We’re now looking forward and want to thank Hartwig Masuch, Thomas Scherer, Dan Gill, Cyndi Lynott, and the entire team at BMG for showing such passion to be part of this band’s future.”

Thomas Scherer, BMG’s president of repertoire and marketing add, “With their high level of success and global appeal, BMG is the perfect partner for a band of this magnitude and what they want to accomplish.
“Ash, Michael, Luke, and Calum are now in the driver’s seat as both entrepreneurs and creators. We will be working together as partners every step of the way to bring them to the next level they so very much deserve.”
