‘6 Festivals’ film scores Screen Australia funding

Groovin The Moo is getting the big screen treatment.

A half dozen of the nation’s hottest and happiest outdoor fests will feature in a new film, which has secured production funding from Screen Australia.

The newly-confirmed project, 6 Festivals, will feature Groovin The Moo, Lost Paradise, The Drop and Big Pineapple, with cameos from a bunch of unannounced artists.

6 Festivals is a coming-of-age drama about three music fans, Summer, Maxie and James, who commit to a bucket list of hitting six music festivals in six months when James is diagnosed with brain cancer.

As they embark on their roadtrip, the trio meet an up-and-coming artist who helps them face the music, so to speak.

The film is financed with support from Universal Music Australia, and it marks the first feature drama from writer and director Macario De Souza (Bra Boys, Fighting Fear, Poo Bear: Afraid of Forever).

Also on board are producers Michael Wrenn (Three Summers), Blayke Hoffman (Poo Bear: Afraid of Forever), Shannon Wilson-McClinton (Hearts and Bones), Jade van der Lei (The Butterfly Tree) and executive producer Mark Fennessy (Mystify).

6 Festivals is one of four projects given the green light by Screen Australia, which will share out $1.4 million.

“We are really pleased to support so many debuts in this slate and I’m confident this will mark the start of very successful careers and some great Australian stories,” comments Screen Australia head of content Sally Caplan on today’s announcement.

In 2018/19, Screen Australia invested over $44 million in 81 projects through its drama production funding initiatives, which included 20 features films.

The cast and crew for 6 Festivals will be announced in due course, and a tentative release date has yet to be announced.
