Australian Institute of Music announces $100,000 in scholarships for ‘future leaders’

Got skills? The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) wants to hear from you.

Today, AIM unveils scholarships to the total value of $100,000, targeting the music industry’s future leaders, innovators and creators.

The scholarships will identify talents in five areas — Innovation, Indigenous, Songwriting, Performance, and New Sounds in Music – with each recipient in line for a contribution up to the value of $20,000 to study an accredited course next year at AIM Sydney or Melbourne.

In such a brutal year for the music industry and the broader creative arts community, nurturing innovation is more important than ever, comments  AIM chairman Ed St John.

“The Australian music industry has experienced a challenging year in 2020, especially the live music sector, but nothing stops the forward momentum of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship,” explains St John, former President/CEO of Warner Music Australia and Chairman of the ARIA Awards.

“At AIM,” he adds, “we are committed to finding, developing and supporting the future leaders of our industry, across music management, performance, songwriting and innovation. AIM has a proud history of successful alumni who have gone on to enjoy successful careers. This is an exciting opportunity to offer our courses to the most deserving candidates and we look forward to reviewing the submissions.”

St John also serves on the board of Music Australia and VA Digital.

The Institute is the only private college dedicated solely to music in the country. With campuses in  Sydney and Melbourne, AIM offers bachelor degrees and masters programs in music, arts and entertainment management and music theatre.

To apply, prospective students must be no more than 25 years of age on 31st December, 2020.

Applications and further details on each scholarship and submission requirements can be found at aim.edu.au/scholarships.

The closing date for submissions is 15th December, after which time a panel of music academics and industry experts will scrutinise the paperwork.
