Billboard unveils ‘Hits of the World’ charts

Billboard is expanding its collection of charts with a new hub that gathers and ranks hits from countries around the globe.

The weekly “Hits of the World” section will sorts the Top 25 songs in upwards of 40 countries, based on song consumption methodology — blending streams and sales — for a local spin on charts.

Powered by MRC Data’s Music Connect platform, the HOTW charts will roll out each Tuesday on Billboard.com and should be visible for all visitors.

According to the trade title, premium MRC Data customers can export deep data on a market basis, several times a week along with a weekly summary.

The chart blitz follows the launch in September 2020 of two new charts tracking the most popular songs on the planet, the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., which rank songs based on streams and sales from more than 200 countries.

“We’ve seen great success in the expansion of our global chart offering with the Billboard Global 200 charts in 2020, and this underscores our commitment to representing what’s happening in worldwide music consumption,” said Billboard President Julian Holguin in a statement.

“MRC Data is a critical success partner for us as the leading independent supplier and these country-based rankings will provide the industry with a measurement of success on a global scale.”

At launch, the charts representing territories throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Africa and will be added within the new section on Billboard.com.

These will sit alongside existing tallies for Billboard-branded licensees in Argentina, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam, along with longstanding third-party partner charts, the statement reads.

The full list of market charts is yet to be revealed, though an Australian Top 25 is expected to be part of the set.

The new global lists will be updated each Tuesday morning, U.S. Eastern Time.

Billboard operates within the PMRC joint venture, which brings together trade and consumer brands in entertainment and music including Variety, Rolling Stone, Music Business Worldwide, The Hollywood Reporter and Vibe.
