British YouTuber LadBaby on track for UK chart history thanks to… sausage rolls

British YouTuber LadBaby is on track to make UK chart history this week, seeking a fourth consecutive Christmas No. 1.

Graphic designer Mark Hoyle began creating comedic videos under the pseudonym ‘LadBaby’ with his wife Roxanne around six years ago.

The couple have since amassed a following of millions across Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

Since 2018, LadBaby has dominated the UK charts at Christmas time, first with a sausage-roll themed re-imagining of Starship’s ‘We Built This City’.

That was swiftly followed by ‘I Love Sausage Rolls’ in 2019, and ‘Don’t Stop Me Eatin” in 2020.

Three consecutive chart-toppers has given LadBaby equal holiday dominance with The Beatles and Spice Girls.

This year, they’re going all-out to beat the record.

‘Sausage Rolls for Everyone’, released last week, is a parody of Elton John and Ed Sheeran‘s current No. 1, ‘Merry Christmas’.

The duo not only endorsed the LadBaby version – they also feature in it.

“They sent us ‘Merry Christmas’ in the middle of summer and we spent four weeks re-writing it,” Hoyle told Official Charts.

“We went down to London and met with Ed, which was quite a nerve-racking moment. He’s one of the best songwriters in the world, and we’ve written lyrics to his song that are silly and sausage roll-ey, but he loved it.”

Hoyle admitted to some hesitation when Sheeran asked him to sing the song together for the first time.

“I’ll never forget we were in a hotel room together and he goes to me, ‘That’s great, shall we sing it through now?’,” he said.

“I was like, ‘Err…. Obviously I will, but my voice is really made for a football terrace’.”

Hoyle told the website Sir Elton enjoyed munching on a sausage roll during the video.

“We bought some sausage rolls to the studio for the video, I gave one to Rox, and Elton was like, ‘Come on, where’s mine?’,” he said.

“I was nervous to even offer him one, but he ate the whole thing, despite saying he hadn’t eaten one in years.”

Because Christmas falls during the UK’s winter, families there often face the impossible decision between staying warm or buying food.

All profits from ‘Sausage Rolls for Everyone’ will go towards the Trussell Trust’s mission to support those in poverty and hunger.
