When Fremantle quintet Boat Show took over Heya Bar in Brisbane for the annual BIGSOUND conference and festival, one blog named them “the best band at this year’s BIGSOUND, by a country mile.”
Select Music Agent Casey O’Shaughnessy thought the same thing; TIO can exclusively reveal she’s signed them to the independent booking agency.
“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Boat Show into the Select Family,” said O’Shaughnessy. “Boat Show blew me away up at BIGSOUND and I fell in love immediately!”
Select Music, which represents the likes of Holy Holy, The Preatures, Ball Park Music, Peter Garrett and Ngaiire, will handle Boat Show’s Australia and New Zealand bookings.
The band’s lead singer Ali Flintoff commented on the signing in true Boat Show fashion: “We’re so excited to give Caseface Killah and her pet lizard ‘Cashew’ the honour of booking the best band in the world.”
The band’s manager Matt Johnson added: “We’re wrapped to have Casey and the Select team on board, she’s the perfect fit. It’s great to have Boat Show on such a fantastic roster of artists.”
The band released their debut record Groundbreaking Masterpiece in February. The long player of songs mostly about being women and the pitfalls of a career in the music industry, is brutal, humorous and overtly personal.
Its tracks “Cis White Boy”, “Staying Alive” and “Suss” all received airplay on triple j with “Staying Alive” and “Cis White Boy” both receiving triple j Unearthed rotation.
With support tours for Cameron Avery, Gooch Palms, Pond, San Cisco and Alex Lahey under their belt, Boat Show are well on their way to becoming another proud Australian export.
Boat Show recorded their sophomore LP in Melbourne earlier in the year with Dean Tuza (Slum Sociable, Pearls, MOSSY); it’s set to be released early next year.
