Face The Music announces first round of 2017 speakers

Face The Music announces first round of 2017 speakers

Following Face The Music’s banner year in 2016, the brilliant Victorian music conference is back once more, and has just announced its first round of speakers for this year’s event.

Heading up this year’s lineup of speakers is Ariel Pink, who has just released his eleventh record Dedicated To Bobby Jameson. A staple of the lo-fi scene, Ariel Pink will be in town to talk at length about his own music, and specifically Bobby Jameson, the namesake and inspiration of his most recent record.

But that’s just scratching the surface, with Canadian rapper/actor/writer Chippy Nonstop joining the bill, and Marky Ramone, a punk historian who served as the drummer for the Ramones from 1978 to 1983. If you’re a fan of music in general, a Ramone is more than enough reason to head along to this phenomenal event.

Collective Artists’ Rebecca Young, and Bella Union’s Anika Mottershaw also join the bill, as does Amrita Hepi, triple j’s Nick Findlay, Mallrat, Monica Tan, and Nicole Prutch.

Also joining the list of speakers is Silke Westera, booking agent for FKP Scorpio, which is in charge of some huge names such as Warpaint, Yeasayer Amy Shark, Alex Lahey, and Middle Kids, and Bjørn Pfarr, head of the huge German music conference and festival, Reeperbahn.

Coming to the country as part of the Victorian Government’s Music Passport Program which aims to incite connections with industry leaders in foreign countries, Pfarr and Westera are the first of six Germans who will be attending the conference this year.

Tickets for the event are on sale now from the Face The Music website. Full summit prices will set you back $140, with members of APRA AMCOS, Music Victoria, AMIN, AAM & AIR eligible for a 10% discount, while a concession ticket will cost you an easy $112.
