Hilltop Hoods turn action stars for interstellar Z2 Comics deal

Hilltop Hoods are turning over a new page, and entering the world of comics.

The Adelaide hip-hop giants strike a deal with Z2 Comics, which will see the lads rendered into action heroes.

Through the arrangement, announced Friday, the Hoods create another slice of history. When they appear in the pages of Z2 Comics’ Hilltop Hoods Present: Noctis from this October, they’ll become the first Australian act to do so.

According to some blurb accompanying the announcement, Pressure, Suffa and DJ Debris will tangle with demonic aliens from another dimension for a sci-fi smackdown.

The lads are listed as co-writers on the graphic novel, alongside Scott Dooley (The New Yorker) and Andrew Archer (The Tokyo 5) with art by Jeff Nice (The Tokyo 5).

Teaming with Z2 on a comic is a childhood dream come true, says Suffa. “I grew up reading Deathlok, X-Force, Spawn and a host of others, I never thought I’d be able to play a part in
putting a comic together, and Z2 have been so generous with their knowledge, resources and time.”

Partnering up with funnyman Scott Dooley “has resulted in a really exciting comic that everyone’s really proud of,” he continues.

It was a match made in deep space, Dooley recounts. “Suf had reached out to see if I’d be interested in helping write a comic and I jumped at the opportunity. The Hoods and I had known Andrew for a few years and really loved what he was doing so being involved was a no-brainer.”

The action doesn’t stop on the pages. The Hilltop Hoods comic debut will extend to a deluxe and super deluxe edition, featuring limited edition art prints, vintage trading cards, sticker sheet and more, say reps.

The Hoods are no strangers to smashing records. They made history with their 2019 album The Great Expanse, which debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, for their sixth consecutive leader, the most for any Australian band or group.

The deal drops as a wave of Australian hip-hop crashes around the globe, led by Masked Wolf’s ‘Astronaut in the Ocean’ and a separate new alliance connecting Lowkee’s Biordi Music with Virgin Music worldwide.
