The Gizz and 5SOS are hardened road warriors, sure. But they’ve got nothing on “America’s Sweetheart” Lewis Capaldi or The Rocket Man, Elton John.

According to a new study by the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP), 23-year-old crooner Capaldi is a touring beast like no other, clocking up 195 shows since the start of 2018, more than anyone else.

The Scottish pop star, whose hit song ‘Someone You Loved’ recently climbed to the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 almost a year after its release, is ranked No. 1 among the “World’s Hardest Working Musicians,” ahead of Billie Eilish, P!nk, Ed Sheeran and Elton.

The new study by the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) analysed Billboard’s top 100 artists from January 2018 to August 2019, looking at factors such as number of domestic shows, number of international shows, the total number of dates and number of countries played to sort out the hardest working acts in showbiz.

King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard are the highest-ranked Aussies, at No. 22 ahead of the likes of Panic at the Disco and Chainsmokers. The psychedelic rock masters knocked out 113 shows, most of which were international dates (91), across 22 markets.

‘Youngblood’ gang 5 Seconds of Summer came in at No. 26 in the top 100, with 103 shows across 19 territories.

Elton, whose upcoming Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour of Australia and NZ has rocketed to 40 dates, is the official King of International. He played 147 shows abroad in 2018/19, or 98% of his total shows.

And the muso with the most stamps in his passport? Ed Sheeran, who visited 32 countries since the start of last year.

Everyone’s favourite Californian teen Billie Eilish also bagged an official touring category. The chart-topping alternative pop star is recognised as the “Artist With The Most Domestic Shows,” smashing out 92 dates in her homeland since early 2018.
