The fallout from Antonio “L.A.” Reid’s ignominious exit at Epic Records continues to turn ugly dth new claims the exec had settled a handful of sexual harassment complaints over a years-long period.e
According to the New York Post, Reid and a previous employer settled an unidentified number of complaints brought by female staffers over a time stretching across more than five years.
It’s unclear in which place of work these separate alleged incidents took place, though some of the settlements reached into six figures, a source involved in the matter told the paper.
The prominent U.S. executive had run Epic Records in the U.S. for nearly six year as chairman/CEO, and is widely credited with having turned the likes of Meghan Trainor, Future, Travi$ Scott and DJ Khaled into superstars.
Reid is a household name in the U.S. who got a discrete namecheck in Pink’s early career hit ‘Don’t Let Me Get Me’ and enjoyed stints as chairman of Island Def Jam and as a judge on the U.S. version of X Factor. Reid made his reputation in the ‘90s with LaFace Records and its roster of acts which included OutKast, Goodie Mob, Toni Braxton and TLC (LaFace was later absorbed into Arista).
Parent company Sony Music is said to have moved swiftly to sack Reid to “avoid another Kesha situation,” a company source told Variety.
A spokesperson for Reid dismissed the latest tabloid report as “a fabrication, it’s untrue.”
