Lizzo, Billie Eillish, and Lil Nas X lead 2020 Grammy Awards nominations

Lizzo, Billie Eillish, and Lil Nas X lead 2020 Grammy Awards nominations

The nominees for the 62nd annual Grammy Awards have been revealed, with some of the biggest names in the music industry scoring recognition for their work.

With just two months to go until the 2020 Grammy Awards kick off, The Recording Academy have revealed just which artists are up for one of the music industry’s highest honours.

While the annual event would usually be held in February, next year sees the Alicia Keys-hosted ceremony being brought forward to January after the Academy Awards revealed their decision to host their 2020 edition on the same date.

This time around, the biggest names in the list of 2020 nominations are a trio of first-timers, including Lizzo (who received eight nominations), and Billie Eillish and Lil Nas X, who each received six nominations.

The Record of the Year award will clearly see fierce competition with the likes of Post Malone, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, and Billie Eillish all vying for the title, alongside big names such as Ariana Grande and Bon Iver.

Likewise, Vampire Weekend and Lana Del Rey join the race for Album of the Year, while the latter is up against Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and more for Song of the Year.

Closing out the big four awards, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Lil Nas X are hot contenders for the Best New Artist award, while Maggie Rogers, Yola, and more join the race as well.

Other notable nominations see Tool receive nods in the Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Song categories, while the final record from The Cranberries sees the late Dolores O’Riordan score a posthumous nomination for In The End.

The 2020 Grammy Awards follow on from a unique year in 2019 which could have seen the Album of the Year award being given to an album not released on CD. While this didn’t occur, it would have been the first time since 1984 that such an event happened, showing just how far the world of music has evolved over the years.

Check out the nominations for the big awards below, and head over to Variety for a comprehensive list of all nominees.
