Luude’s ‘Down Under’ Feat. Colin Hay is about to crash the U.K. Top 10

Luude is on the verge of becoming Australia’s next U.K. Top 10 hitmaker, with some help from Colin Hay.

The Gold Coast electronic music producer’s bass-heavy reimagining of ‘Down Under’ rises 20-10 on the midweek U.K. chart, doing so in the fifth week since release.

If it maintains its current position, it’ll become Luude’s first U.K. Top 10 appearance, and just the second for Hay, who contributes vocals to the club track.

Hay and his band Men At Work previously reached the U.K. chart summit with the original cut of ‘Down Under,’ which logged three weeks at No. 1 back in 1983.

Men At Work notched up four U.K. Top 40 singles in total, including ‘Overkill’ (No. 21 peak), ‘It’s A Mistake’ (No. 33) and ‘Dr Heckyll And Mr Jive,’ all in 1983, and a No. 1 album with the Grammy Award-winner Business As Usual.

When the weekly chart is published late Friday, ‘Down’ Under’ featuring Colin Hay should become the second Aussie dance track to impact the U.K. Top 20 in the past three months, after Shouse saw their moody number ‘Love Tonight’ hit No. 18.

‘Down Under’ is the current leader on the Official Top 40 Singles survey in New Zealand, where its gold-certified, and it lifts 14-13 on the ARIA Singles Chart, for a new peak.

Its international journey has caught enough steam to land ‘Down Under’ on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart for the first time, at No. 125.

Its appearance on that list, which measures the performance of singles in the world outside the United States, is powered by 6.5 million streams and 1,200 downloads sales in the week ending Jan. 20, according to MRC Data published by Billboard.

The thumping track has enjoyed support on the BBC thanks to Radio 1 presenter and DJ Charlie Hedges and is released by Sydney label Sweat It Out, which, along with its sister label Central Station Records, is on the expansion path with several recent hires and promotions.
