Maree Hamblion promoted to senior international role at Sony Music Publishing

Veteran music publishing A&R Maree Hamblion is promoted to Senior VP, International A&R at Sony Music Publishing.

Based in Sydney, Hamblion will spearhead the music publisher’s international A&R efforts, she’ll sign and discover songwriters, and create new opportunities and collaborations for its songwriters.

Her promotion is reward for signing numerous prominent Australian songwriters including Alex Hope, Sarah Aarons, Jarryd James, Gretta Ray, Isabella Kearney-Nurse, Sam Sakr, Rory Adams, Ainslie Wills, Tina Arena, Ned Houston, and Robby De Sa, along with New Zealand songwriters Stan Walker, Alex Wildwood and Jawsh 685.

Following EMI’s merger with Sony/ATV in 2012, Hamblion was named Senior A&R Manager and, in 2015, was elevated to Joint Head of A&R.

According to a statement issued out of New York, Hamblion reports to MD, Scandinavia and SVP A&R, Europe Johnny Tennander and Managing Director, Australia Damian Trotter.

“Maree has long been a powerhouse of A&R within the Australian music publishing industry, having identified and developed many of its most successful songwriters,” comments Trotter.

“I am personally thrilled for Maree,” he adds, “and we are all so excited at SMP Australia by the further opportunities that her well-deserved promotion will bring to our local writers on the international stage.”

Tennander praises Hamblion as “one of the most passionate A&R’s I’ve ever worked with.”

Maree cut her teeth at EMI Music Publishing, joining the company’s Sydney office in 1995.

In the years since, she has signed and worked with the likes of Divinyls, Jimmy Barnes, Joel Little, Lindsay Rimes, Ladyhawke, PNAU, Hayley Warner, Julian Hamilton (The Presets), Savage Garden, The Paper Kites, Tonight Alive, DNA Songs, The McClymonts and The Veronicas.

Sony Music Publishing recent underwent a rebranding, introducing what execs describe as “a new brand identity with a redesigned logo and revitalised mission” under Jon Platt, chairman & CEO.
