Pill-testing trial at Groovin the Moo a “success”

Pill-testing trial at Groovin the Moo a “success”

For the second successive year, a pill-testing trial took place at the Canberra leg of Groovin the Moo. Festival organisers have heralded the controversial trial  “overwhelmingly successful.”

SBS has reported that over 230 punters used the pill-testing service. Several of the substances tested showed traces of n-ethylpentylone, a potentially fatal drug. It has been reported that all those who were told that their drugs contained n-ethylpentylone dumped the drugs in amnesty bins provided by the pill-testing service.

171 substances were tested during this years trial, doubling the 85 substances that were tested last year; these included MDMA, cocaine, ketamine and methamphetamines.

“We helped reduce drug-related harm by giving young people access to a medical service they would not have had otherwise,” shared Gino Vambuca from Pill Testing Australia. “The pilot was again overwhelmingly successful by any measure but particularly by doing everything possible to keep our kids safe.”

“The simple truth is that it is time to take practical evidence-based steps to make parties and festivals safer for our kids.”

The ACT is currently the only state in Australia to allow pill testing.
