Spotify’s new analytics tool will help artists reach fans

Spotify’s new analytics tool will help artists reach fans

Remember when Spotify released a data dashboard called Fan Insights in 2015? Well, after being tested by “tens of thousands” of users, it’s now finished its beta term allowing artists to deep dive into insights about how well their music is performing.

Rebranded as Spotify for Artists and available to all artists and management teams, the service includes:

  • demographic details (e.g. age, gender, location)
  • real-time streams data
  • details on which playlists and features an artist’s fans are using to discover them
  • which other acts their fans are listening to when their music gets added to a playlist
  • notifications when their music gets added to a playlist.

According to TechCrunch, Spotify for Artists will now serve as a hub for support questions and page customisation – like added a featured song or “pick” – as well as being the page where artists can get verified (as opposed to filling out a separate form beforehand).

The launch of the service follows Spotify’s strategic acquisitions of music DNA company The Echo Nest in 2014, Beats Music’s analytics provider Seed Scientific in 2015, audio detection startup Sonalytic in early March and content recommendation startup MightyTV in late March.

In other Spotify news, Spotify Premium for Students has launched in 33 countries, including Australia.

For $5.99 a month for 12 months, students get the following benefits of Spotify Premium:

  • Uninterrupted music without any ads

  • Instant access to over 30 million songs whenever you want them – just hit play

  • Take your collection offline – listen to songs and playlists  anywhere without using up data

  • Better sound quality with Spotify Premium
