The Kid LAROI’s ‘Stay’ joins elite company on U.S. airplay chart

The Kid LAROI is enjoying rare air in the United States, where he joins some elite chart company.

The Kamilaroi artist’s collaboration with Justin Bieber, ‘Stay,’ logs a 10th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, a feat that’s happened just 15 times in the tally’s history.

The airplay survey launched in 1992, and captures data from north of 150 mainstream Top 40-formatted radio stations.

For some perspective, just 400 songs have led the chart in those three decades.

The last single to clock-up double-figures at the summit was Post Malone’s ‘Circles,’ in November 2019.

Six songs have reigned over the pop chart for a longer stint, a list that includes Natalie Imbruglia’s global hit ‘Torn’ (at 11 weeks) and is led by Swedish popster’s Ace of Base’s ‘The Sign’ (with 14 weeks).

‘Stay’ has ruled the all-genre, all-format Billboard Hot 100 for seven total weeks, and its parent mixtape F*ck Love led the Billboard 200 earlier this year, both firsts for an Indigenous Australian male artist.

According to Billboard, ‘Stay’ has generated more than 537 million streams and sold upwards of 177,000 downloads in the U.S. alone.

LAROI (real name Charlton Howard) is up for four trophies at the 2021 ARIA Awards, including a nod for best artist.
