The track was helped along by Spotify’s global editorial team, who plugged the song on various international playlists and helped convert Internet buzz into a chart beast.

It’s enjoyed “huge initial support in the Nordics,” where she continues to top Spotify charts across the region, according to Spotify.

“There is arguably no new artist bigger on Spotify at present than Australia’s Tones And I,” reads a statement from the company.

The one-time busker turned global star is riding a dream start to her career. Remember, ‘Dance Monkey’ is just Tones’ second single.

It’s blasted to No. 1 in 14 markets including Australia, where it’s riding an 11-week streak atop the ARIA Singles Chart, the best by an Aussie artist and now the longest run by a female artist from any country.

It’s also on track for a third week at the top on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, midweek data there suggests. The U.S. has yet to truly wake up to ‘Dance Monkey’. Yet.

Tones also leads the Global Shazam chart, the video for ‘Dance Monkey’ has swung past 70 million views, and she’s up out in front for next month’s ARIA Awards, with eight nominations.
