Tones And I makes U.S. chart history

Tones And I has made chart history, again.

The Aussie singer and songwriter is the inaugural leader on Billboard’s new Alternative Songwriters chart, one of a bunch of U.S. music industry tallies published this week for the very first time.

The Alternative Songwriters chart is based on total points accrued by songwriters for each track that impacts the Hot Alternative Songs survey, also new.

The four-time ARIA Award champ did enough to take the first No. 1 first due to her smash hit ‘Dance Monkey’ and follow-up ‘Bad Child’ bagging positions No. 4 and No. 18, respectively on Hot Alternative Songs.

Tones has sole writing credit on both works.

It’s the latest in an extensive list of records and awards for Tones (real name Toni Watson), who just two years ago was busking on the streets of south east Queensland and northern New South Wales.

‘Dance Monkey’ has amassed more than 7 billion streams across all platforms and now ranks in the top 10 most-streamed songs on Spotify.

And with that effort, ‘Dance Monkey’ is the most-streamed tune by a woman on the streaming leader.

Riding a year-long path of glory, ‘Dance Monkey’ ruled charts in at least 30 territories.

In Australia, the hit ruled the ARIA Singles Chart for 24 weeks, an all-time record, and ‘Dance Monkey’ enjoyed 11 weeks at No. 1 in the U.K., a high-mark for a solo female artist.

Tones is the first Australian selected for YouTube’s Artist on the Rise program and she’s the cover star of Rolling Stone Australia’s debut issue.
