One year on from the announcement that they would be moving up to the role of triple j Breakfast hosts, the beloved Sally & Erica have now broken the news that they’ll be leaving the role.

Having first joined triple j back in 2017 as overnight hosts, Sally & Erica moved on to hosting Weekend Arvos in 2018, with fill-in shifts across the triple j Drive, Good Nights, the Hip Hop Show and Summer Arvos programs. After the departure of Ben & Liam in late 2019, it was revealed that the pair would be moving timeslots once again, this time, to the coveted Breakfast program.

Over the last year, the duo have undoubtedly kicked a number of massive goals, including dropping a rap-medley honouring the hottest female-led songs of the decade for International Women’s Day, going deep with Kevin Parker when Tame Impala placed #1 in the Hottest 100 of the Decade, and even going viral on TikTok by way of a famous Scomo speech.

“I’m so incredibly grateful to have spent the last four years as part of Australia’s biggest family of music lovers,” Sally explains of her time at triple j. “It’s been a wild ride – from a one-off guest slot with Matt & Alex to taking the reins of Breakfast ourselves.

“I’ve had so many pinch-myself moments, but the most amazing part of my time at triple j has been the audience. triple j listeners never fail to make me cackle, warm my heart and inspire me. I’ve loved waking up with you every morning – thank you for everything. I can’t wait to show you what’s next!”

“The weird thing about listening to triple j is that it makes you feel like you have tens of thousands of friends,” adds Erica. “That’s exactly how I’ve felt for the last four years, being lucky enough to hear from you.

“Whether it’s just a song request on the text line, a call in to say hey, a story about your weekend or a dumb thing you did as a kid, I’ve loved every minute of the crazy, passionate energy that comes from the triple j audience. Thank you for everything. It’s time for me to hang up the headphones for now and focus on other things (a little later in the day than 6am). I’ll catch you very soon.”

While the details regarding who will be taking over the role of Breakfast hosts in 2021 are yet to be revealed, the rest of the year will see Weekend Arvos host Bryce Mills taking over for the remainder of the year.
